When it comes to salads, the dressing can make all the difference! This Mediterranean salad dressing with sumac gives veggies a burst of flavors that amps up even the most basic salads! Its tangy and slightly citrusy flavor adds a unique flavor and an even more unreal purple color to your every day salads.
This dressing is well-balanced with tangy and sweet notes. It's great for salads or to simply dip your veggies in. I often have it on various veggies, like a simple broccoli and tomato with pita chips salad. It's one of my all-time favorite sumac recipes!

What is Sumac?
Sumac spice is made from the dried and ground berries of the sumac plant, which is native to the Mediterranean region. I grew up on this spice being in various dishes like salad dressings, in beef kefta, and other meat dishes. I have it featured in this beautiful Feta and Strawberry salad.
What Does Sumac Taste Like?
Sumac has a tangy and acidic flavor. It's a great alternative for lemon! It not only adds a burst of citrus flavor but also imparts a beautiful reddish or purplish hue to the food. Seriously, it's gorgeous and so fun to work with.
Where to Find Sumac?
Most Mediterranean or Middle Eastern shops will store this spice on their shelves. The closest one to me is 4 hours away. So if you don't have one near you, you can reply on purchasing sumac online. This is a good one to go with.
Are There Nutritional Benefits to Sumac?
Yes! Sumac has several nutritional benefits like being rich in antioxidants, a good source of vitamin C, as well as containing anti-inflammatory properties that contribute to overall well-being.
How Long Does This Dressing Last?
The dressing can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week. Before using, give it a good shake or whisk to recombine the ingredients. If the olive oil crystalized, leave the dressing on the counter for a few minutes until it warms.
